Biography Of Bassey Albert Akpan

BASSEY ALBERT AKPAN WAS BORN in the year 1973 in Ididep Usuk village, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State to Chief Robert Akpan, a successful business man.
Bassey attended University of Uyo where he studied
economics and graduated in the year 1997 with Second Class Upper Division. After his first degree, he proceeded for a post-graduate degree and earned his Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Bassey got employed to work in the banking industry; he started his banking career in 1997 with United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc in Lagos. In the year 1999 he became the manager, Corporate Banking Group at Continental Trust Bank at its Victoria Island Head Office in Lagos. In the year 2003, he joined First Inland Bank Plc. At the bank, he was made a branch manager and as Branch Manager in Uyo, he won the Bank’s Award as Best Performing Branch Manager in the South-South Region. He also later won the overall Best Performing Branch Manager of the Bank, Nationwide in the Mid-Year performance review during the 2004 financial year. Bassey left the First Inland Bank in November as Senior Manager to join the First City Monument Bank Plc (FCMB PLC) as Assistant Vice President.

At First City Monument Bank Plc (FCMB Plc) Bassey managed over three hundred capacity human resource base, resulting in efficient customer service delivery and superior financial performance; this feat earned him the Bank’s Award as the Best Performing Zonal Director and Business Unit.

Bassey Albert Akpan later left the banking industry to answer a patriotic call to service by His Governor Godswill Akpabio who appointed him the Commissioner for Finance in the Akwa Ibom State Government. Bassey concluded his tenure as Honourable Commissioner for Finance in 2011.

In the year 2015, Bassey contested for the post of a senator and won the the contest. Accordingly, Bassey was sworn in as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on May 28, 2015.

Bassey Albert is a loving husband and father of four lovely children. He is also a great philanthropist.

Bassey have earned the following Awards and Recognitions:

* Golden Award given to him by Lions Club International for Service to Humanity in the year 2011.
* The Paul Harry Fellow Award by Rotary Club International in the year 2011.
* Fellow, Nigerian Association of Teachers of Technology in the year 2010..
* Award of Excellence by the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) Uyo and District Society in the year 2009.
* Award of Honour, Ibiono Ibom Welfare & Development Union ( 2009).
* Traditional Title of “ENIN IBIONO IBOM” by Ibiono Ibom Traditional Rulers Council (2009).
* Chieftaincy Title of “OBONG UFORO AKWA IBOM STATE (Monarch of Prosperity of Akwa Ibom State) by the Paramount Ruler of Etinan and Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs, His Majesty Edidem Dickson Umoette.
* Chieftaincy Title of “IBEREDEM IDIDEP” (Rock of Ididep) by Clan Head of Ididep.
* Honorary Award of Excellence given to him by the National Association of Akwa Ibom State Students (NAAKISS) 2013.
* Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria in the year  2013.
* Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria in the year 2013.
* Fellow of the National Association of Research Development (FNARD).
* Patron of Christian Council of Nigeria.
* Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Golf Association.
* Golden Public Service Award by the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Uyo Branch.
* Award of Excellence by the Foundation for Sound and Intervention (FASMACIN).
* ‘Award of Honour’ presented by National Association of Ibiono Ibom Students, University of Calabar Chapter (NAIBS – UCC)..

* ‘Award of Excellence’ Presented by Forum of Past Student Leaders, University of Uyo.
