Biography Of Olusola Oke


Olusola Alexander Oke was born on April 7, 1956 in Ilowo, in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State. His father was from Ilaje and his mother hailed from Imoru town in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo state.

Oke attended UNA Primary School, Ode-Ilowo between 1961-1963. He thereafter dropped out of school at the age  of 7 due to money constraints. He then went on to become a professional fisherman who lived and earned his living from the creek of the rivers in Ilaje and its environs. He did this between 1963 and 1973.

His desire to be educated propelled him to abandon fishing and return to school.

In 1973, he enrolled in Methodist Primary School, Ilepete to complete his Primary School Education. He later proceeded to Methodist Secondary Modern School, Ilepete where he graduated in 1976. He thereafter attended Ilaje Grammar School, Atijere in Ilaje Local Government where he obtained his West Africa School Certificate  in 1980.
Olusole Oke was an auxiliary Teacher at Happy City College Ayetero, Ilaje Local Government and Methodist High School, Okitipupa.

He initially got admission into Ondo State School of Arts and Science, Ikare in October, 1981 but later swapped to Law when he was offered admission into the prestigious University of Ife in 1982.

He thereafter bagged a degree in Law in 1986 from where he proceeded to the Nigerian Law School where he was subsequently called to the Nigerian bar in 1987.

In 1987, as a young practicing lawyer, he did his pupilage at Olufemi Lanlehin and Co., a law firm in Ikeja, Lagos. From there however, he moved to Okitipupa where he established Olusola Oke and Associates on the 14th of July, 1988.

It is worthy to note that as an active member of the Nigerian Bar Association, he has held several positions such : In 1996, he became the Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association, Okitipupa Branch; Between 1997 and the year 2000, he became the chairman of NBA, Okitipupa Branch; Also, between 1997 and year 2000, he was a member of the National Executive Committee of the NBA. He has also been an aspirant of the senior advocateship, haven been shortlisted three times.

He has also held political positions. For example, he was elected into the House of Representatives in 1992 to represent Ilaje/Ese-Odo Federal Constituency. Prior to this appointment, he was appointed a member, Ondo State Internal Revenue Board. In 2000, he was appointed as a commissioner representing Ondo State on the Governing Board of NDDC where he served meritoriously for four years. In 2005, he was again appointed as a member of the National Political Reform Conference. While there, the Ondo State Government appointed him as the Chairman and CEO of Ondo State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (OSOPADEC) a position he held until he voluntarily resigned in October, 2006 to run for PDP ticket for Ondo South Senatorial District. 

At the primary election, he was returned as candidate having secured not less than 75% of the votes cast in a race involving three (3) aspirants. He however could not sail through to the end.

Between 2008 and 2012, he was the National Legal Adviser of the PDP.

In 2005, he was nominated and served in the National Political Reform Conference and in 2007, he served as a member of the Presidential Technical Committee on Niger Delta. He was appointed the Chairman of the Federal Polytechnic Bida in 2009 and also appointed Chairman, National Steel Raw Materials Exploration Agency between 2009 to 2011.

It is interesting to note that he was a governorship candidate in Ondo state in the 2012 gubernatorial election but unfortunately could not clinch the ticket

Olusola oke is again a top contender for the ticket for the state Governorship election coming up in November 2016.
