Following the disruptions that ensued at the May Day celebrations, Channels have reported that billions of naira is being owed Nigerian workers which necessitated thescheduling of a very important meeting.
The closed door meeting was chaired on Monday by the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, and attended by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Yakubu Dogara.
It also had in attendance the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr. Chris Ngige, as well as the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, and members of organised labour unions.
Briefing reporters after the session, Dr. Ngige said the meeting would continue on Tuesday, even as he admitted that government lacks the funds to pay workers’ arrears.
On his part, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ayuba Wabba, said the unions welcome the meeting, but look forward to a resolution that would prevent industrial action on their part.
